In this blog article we present you two Castles that you can easily reach from our hotel: Neuschwanstein Castle and Linderhof Castle.

Neuschwanstein Castle – A fairytale dream

Neuschwanstein Castle is undoubtedly one of the most visited castles in the world. The castle was built by King Ludwig II of Bavaria and is only about an hour's drive from the Klosterhotel Ettal. The journey through the picturesque landscape is an experience in itself.

Neuschwanstein Castle impresses with its architecture and spectacular location high above the Alpsee. It served as inspiration for Disney's Sleeping Beauty Castle and offers insights into magnificent interiors and a royal world. The throne room and the singers' hall, which are decorated with artistic ornaments and magnificent paintings, are particularly impressive.

After visiting Neuschwanstein Castle, we recommend a walk to the Marienbrücke, from which you can enjoy a breathtaking view of Neuschwanstein Castle and the surrounding mountain landscape. Don't forget to bring your camera - the view is simply beautiful!

Linderhof Castle – A royal retreat

Just a short drive from the Klosterhotel Ettal lies the Linderhof PalaceIt is the smallest of Ludwig II's three castles and, as they say, small but beautiful. This enchanting castle, nestled in the green landscape of the Graswang valley, served as the king's private retreat. It impresses with its lavish furnishings and beautifully landscaped gardens.

Linderhof Palace is the only one of the three palaces that was completely finished during the king's lifetime. Particularly worth seeing are the Hall of Mirrors, the bedroom and the Venus Grotto, an artificially created stalactite cave with an impressive lake and a replica of a mussel boat. This grotto served as a backdrop for Ludwig II's opera productions.

The extensive parks of Linderhof Castle are perfect for relaxing walks. Stroll through the baroque gardens, admire the artistic fountains and pavilions or simply enjoy the peace and beauty of nature.
