Our monastery hotel Ettal is a place that not only impresses with its breathtaking beauty, but also has a deep-rooted history that goes back 400 years. The history is closely linked to that of the Ettal monastery, which has been a spiritual center since its foundation in 1330.

In the early 17th century, when the monastery had already existed for over three centuries, the monks began to accommodate the growing number of pilgrims and visitors who came from near and far to experience the holy site and the surrounding breathtaking nature. Hostels and hospices were built particularly on inhospitable mountain passes and in remote areas, as there was no other option for accommodation for travelers and pilgrims. What initially began as a simple hostel developed over time into an inn and finally into a hotel, our Klosterhotel Ettal.

The Benedictine monks played a central role in the development of the hotel, seeing hospitality as part of their monastic activities. This tradition of hospitality and service continues to this day at the Ettal Monastery Hotel.
