For over 400 years, our monastery hotel in Bavaria has been welcoming guests, first day tourists, then vacationers, and finally conference attendees. We owe this long history to the venerable Ettal Abbey , located directly opposite the hotel. From earliest times, monasteries have operated inns and hospices, welcoming guests. Ettal Abbey was no exception, establishing the "Wirtstavern" (tavern) in the 15th century, which over time evolved into our 4-star Klosterhotel Ettal Ludwig der Bayer. Hospitality is, so to speak, in our blood. For Saint Benedict, whose rule the monks in Ettal follow, hospitality was of paramount importance.
