ACTIVE AND CULTURAL ENJOYMENT
The Blue Land
Come in to the Blue Land! The Upper Bavarian Alpine foothills are a natural wonder – the Blue Land is a very special experience, combining nature, culture and art in an impressive way. It is not for nothing that this landscape attracted painters of the “Blue Rider“ such as Kandinsky, Jawlensky, Münter and many more and inspired countless works. Changing light moods immerse lakes, moors, meadows and forests of Murnau up to Kochel in picturesque colours. The white-blue sky is reflected on the water surface of Froschhauser See, Staffelsee and Riegsee. A wide, clear view to the horizon that does not restrict you and yet makes the mountains seem close enough to touch. The Alpine chain with the Zugspitze often appears in soft shades of blue, which painters Franz Marc led him to name his adopted home “the Blue Land”.
The beauty of the Blue Land can be explored on foot or by bike. And all this from our beautiful Ettal Monastery Hotel On 110km of marked hiking trails you can discover the rare flora and fauna in the Murnauer Moos, the impressive bird and nature reserves of the region as well as the wild and romantic banks of the Loisach. Water lovers will get their money's worth on the charming island worlds in the Staffelsee. And you can gather strength and peace on the traditional Meditation path, who also participated in our Monastery Hotel passes by.
In addition to so much nature, the nine towns of the Blue Land provide further variety. A stroll through Murnau's Marktstrasse is particularly impressive. It is the only pedestrian zone in Bavaria with a view of the mountains and impresses with its urban, almost southern charm and village idyll. The best thing to do is to see the beauty of the Blue Land for yourself and spend your holiday with us at the Klosterhotel Ettal!
