These include the Benedictine Ettal Abbey built in 1330 by Emperor Louis IV with its impressive Basilica, magnificent rococo vestry and grand monastery library. The region beyond our monastery is also full of hidden cultural highlights: The royal castles of Ludwig II, the world-famous Passion Play, Oberammergau with its majestic facade murals and religious wood-carvings, various local museums and the renowned Pilgrimage Church of Wies are all well worth a visit.
