NATURE PARK
Ammergau Alps
The words 'pure nature' could not be more fitting to describe the Ammergau Alps. Indulge all your senses in the Ammergau Alps nature park which covers 227 square kilometres
It is home to the Ammer wild river to which the nature park owes its name. It is one of the few remaining wild rivers of its kind. It flows through the alpine landscape whose mountain hay forms the basis for the hay liqueur produced in the Ettal Abbey. More than two dozen species of orchid can be found in the moorland. The yellow-flowering 'Karlspeter', a remnant of the Ice Age, exists nowhere else in Central Europe. The forests in the Ammergau Alps provide protection against the risks posed by the mountains. And finally, the mountains themselves. To get a good view of the nature park, you need to climb up high. Up the Kreuzspitze. The region's highest mountain offers spectacular views. It's a real paradise for flora and fauna. We invite you to experience it with all of your senses.
Families can enjoy a wide range of activities in our wonderful region. Whether tobogganing on the summer toboggan run, swimming in the WellenBerg pool, the barefoot trail around the Soiener See lake or a children's tour of Linderhof Palace, there's plenty to keep you and your kids entertained.
Do you prefer things a little quieter? There are plenty of spots for contemplation in the Ammergau Alps nature park. Take a walk along the Meditation Path that passes right by our beautiful monastery hotel. How about some wild swimming? Or discover the six islands of tranquillity on the Zeitberg ('time mountain'), where you can forget about everyday life for a while. If you want to be completely undisturbed, store your mobile phone, tablet and electronic devices in the handy lockers at the summit and discover the magnificent mountain scenery around the Klosterhotel Ettal Ludwig der Bayer offline. You'll see just how relaxing a stay in the Ammergau Alps region can be.
